FSSAI NODES TO APPOINT FOOD INSPECTORS AS DESIGNATED OFFICERS

In a recent clarification issued by the FSSAI, the  States have been directed to follow the procedure laid down in the Food Safety and Standards Rules for the appointment of Food Inspectors working in the Municipal Corporations/ Councils as Food Safety Officers and Designated Officers.
The   Secretary, Mahanagar Palika/ Nagar Palika "Anna Nirikshak  Sanghathana, Maharastra State"  has sent a representation to the FSSAI to consider the Food Inspectors working in the Municipal Corporations/Council  to consider for the appointment of Food Safety Officers and Designated Officers.

The FSSAI has examined the requisition and has clarified  in its letter dated 05.07.2011 that it is clarified that the rules put two conditions (i)the exiting officers should satisfy such other conditions that the State governments may notify and (ii)the Officer has to be notified as FSO by the State government.
Thus the FSSAI has clarified that it is well within the purview of the State government to take decision and issue notification after screening.
The day for the Food Safety Rules to take effect is coming soon ie 05.08.2011. The State governments will announce the strategy well before the implementation date.
Let us thank the Mahanagar Palika/ Nagar Palika "Anna Nirikshak   Sanghathana, Maharastra  State for raising the issue.
                Hats off to FSSAI.
Let us all hope for a bright future.
Food Safety Officers and Designated Officers are going to bring a better food safety world with the guidelines issued by the FSSAI.
