I was invited by the Dean, Faculty of Food Sciences, College of Food and Dairy Technology, Koduvalli coming under the Tamilnadu Veternary and Animal Sciences University to give a guest lecture on "Food safety and Standards Act,2006,rules and regulations on 13.12.12.
When I reached the college @ Koduvalli near Redhills,Chennai, Dr.Karthikeyan was kind enough to receive me at the venue. Then, he introduced me to the participants and allotted an hour for my guest lecture.
I presented my guest lecture combining the food hygiene, the ill-effects of unhygienic food as presenting the Act and Rules alone will not be appealing to the participants who have come from the various districts of Tamilnadu. They were entrepreneurs undergoing training in Meat and Meat products Processing.
My guest lecture could not be closed within an hour as the participants were clarifying their doubts for more than half an hour.
I explained to them the Administrative set up of the Food Safety Administration, the Licence/Registration procedures. Central/State licences, licence fees structure, the need for food licence and related things.
The participants were interested in day to day food habits, food hygiene, the effects which the Act would bring in and other related matters.
The enthusiasm shown by the participants,their interrogation and the feedback was much commentable.
The college is organizing such training programs for the entrepreneurs to make them self confident and thereby making them successful businessmen. They owe a lot to the college and the administration.
As against the routine office works, this type of guest lectures gives refreshing mind to the officials.
