SEALING OF FOOD UNITS WARRANT SHOW CAUSE NOTICE



The Madras High Court had recently observed that the Designated Officers under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006 cannot seal a business premises without issuing a show cause notice and conducting an enquiry into the alleged violation of the legal provisions.

FSSAI LICENCE MUST FOR SLAUGHTER HOUSES


The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, in a communication to the food safety commissioners stated that local bodies are not the licencing authorities for slaughterhouses. All meat shops and slaughterhouses must have FSSAI licence, the communication from ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

NATIONWIDE SURVEY IN JANUARY TO ENSURE SAFE FOOD

With growing instances of adulteration of food items in recent years, particularly items like milk and milk products, packaged drinking water, edible oil, ground spices, tea and coffee, the consumer affairs department and food safety authority will now conduct a nationwide survey and testing of food samples. The drive will start in January and will continue for six months.

STRINGENT STEPS TO SAVE COURTALLAM.

                        
                             The Honourable High Court of Madras has directed the State government to provide all basic infrastructures to the tourists coming to Courtallam in Tirunelveli District. The Tirunelveli District Administration  has made extensive arrangements to provide all amenities needed for the tourists who visit Courtallam during this season. As a measure to improve the food hygiene at Courtallam, the state Food Safety department has deputed Food Safety Officers to inspect and ensure food hygiene in the stalls at Courtallam.

CONGRATS COMRADES



          In an order passed, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has directed the UT Administration to consider the UT’s senior-most food safety officer for appointment as designated officer under the Food Safety and Standards Act and fill the post on a regular basis in three months than filling it by way of deputation.

MONITORING CARBONATED SOFT DRINKS.



The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has monitored and conducted checks on carbonated soft drinks to detect their deleterious effects on consumers. The FSSAI is the nodal agency for regulating manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import of articles of food, has reported that as per information received from some of the State/UT Governments, total number of samples collected for the last three years and current year were 1552, out of which, 94 samples were found to be nonconforming with the prescribed standards.
